Subscription Box Round-Up: February Marvel Collector Corps

Time once again to talk about subscription boxes. This time around, we’ll be talking about the latest Marvel Collector Corps box from Funko.

This month’s theme is Superhero Showdowns, and for once, I didn’t have any of the contents spoiled, except for the fact that one of the items would be a Pop! two-pack.

Drama in My Ears! Big Finish Productions February 2017

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts about Big Finish Productions, I used to listen to their stuff regularly while walking on the treadmill. I fell behind on my exercise routine, and consequently on listening to Big Finish audio plays. I’m back on the treadmill now, though, so I thought I would start blogging about the Big Finish plays I’m listening to as I walk.

(Note: I have added the trailers for the stories at the end of this post. I don't like the way imbedded clips from Soundcloud look on my posts, and am too lazy to figure out how to do it better.)

Cicero

While the series Big Finish licenses from other media are tons of fun, I love it when they create something that is completely their own. After years of quality products, they have earned my faith to the point that I will buy almost anything they produce, and so I was perfectly happy to order this legal drama set in ancient Rome, starring the historical figure Cicero (about whom I know almost nothing).

Subscription Box Round-Up: Smugglers Bounty and Marvel Gear & Goods

I’m back! If you’re reading this, that makes two weeks in a row! This week, I will be covering the contents of the January Funko Star Wars Smugglers Bounty Box and February Loot Crate Marvel Gear & Goods. (I decided to just jump into current boxes; if I try to go back and cover the boxes I received during my hiatus, I might never get caught up.)

This month’s Smuggler’s Bounty theme is The Empire Strikes Back, with a nice Han Solo image on the box.

After a couple of months off, I’m going to try to get back in the habit of blogging regularly again. As I’ve said before, the purpose of this blog is for me to share things that make me happy, so I’m not going to dwell too much on what hasn’t been doing that here. If you are paying any attention to what’s happening in our country at all, you probably know. (And if you can’t figure it out, then I don’t really care to hear from you.)

While my happiness level may be down overall these days, I am always happy when I think of my wife, my family, and my kitties. Last year, we commissioned a painting of our three babies by Jenny Parks.

Taking a break

Beyond the general busy-ness I've alluded to the past few posts, I've been feeling pretty down following the results of Tuesday's election. The title of this blog is, "This Makes Me Happy," and right now, I'm not feeling very happy. I'm going to take a break from writing for a few weeks to a month or so, and focus on rediscovering those things that make me happy, without the added pressure of a self-imposed weekly blog deadline. Once I'm feeling more myself, I'll start posting again.

While I had hoped to have a cool Haunted Mansion-related post every Friday in October, real life got in the way in the form of work, sick cats, jury duty, and scorpions in our yard. So the detailed entry about the Haunted Mansion Ghost Post is going to have to wait for another time. However, just in time for Halloween, here is a gallery of Haunted Mansion Tsum Tsums.

Disney Kingdoms Haunted Mansion

Disney Kingdoms: The Haunted Mansion is the fifth series in Marvel's Disney Kingdoms series of comics based on attractions (or ideas for attractions) in the Disney Parks. Previous series featured Seekers of the Weird (based on an early idea for part of the Haunted Mansion), Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and two series about Figment the dragon and other characters from Journey into Imagination. Marvel is currently publishing the sixth Disney Kingdoms series, based on the Enchanted Tiki Room, and like all the series before it, it's a lot of fun.
