What's in the Box?!?: June Disney Treasures Box

Apologies for no blog entries the past couple of weeks. Things have been pretty stressful in our house again, for reasons I won’t get into here. Hopefully, things will be back on track now.

A little before that stressful hiatus, though, the second Funko Disney Treasures box arrived! The theme this month is Festival of Friends, and Funko had already revealed one of the items that would be in the box. But we’ll get to that once we open the box. First, let’s take a look at the box itself.

As you can see, the box has a new Festival of Friends sticker this month. However, I was pleased to see an image of last month’s sticker, Pirate’s Cove, printed on the outside. This is pretty cool; as the months go on, more and more stickers will cover the box, and it’ll look like a well-traveled trunk. We don’t actually save the boxes—no space—but it’s still fun to look at.

(As usual, the box includes a fresh sticker inside, as well.)

Upon opening the box, we immediately see this box’s patch and pin.

The patch this month is Piglet, Pooh’s best friend. And remember, all the patches from the first year will fit together with a special central patch (possibly only available to Founder subscribers) to make one big super-patch.

The pin this month is Thumper, Bambi’s best friend. Once again, the pin has the Mickey-shaped back, indicating that it is an official part of the Disney Parks pin trading program. It looks like this Thumper is a Pop! version, between the shape of the head and the solid black eyes. I’m not sure if Piglet is a Pop! version or not; he’s got black eyes normally.

Once we lift the top flap, we see the folded up insert detailing the contents (which I will show later).

Beneath that, we immediately see the big item of the box, which is a large Pop! that had been already revealed by Funko. It’s Dumbo, clutching his “magic” feather, with his best friend Timothy the mouse riding in Dumbo’s hat.

The Pop! is adorable, and is mounted on a stand to look like they are in flight. I feel like the Funko sculptors really captured the innocence of Dumbo’s expression and smile. The Pop! version of Timothy in the hat is also super cute. I only have two other Dumbo items in my collection; one is a plush, but the other is a ceramic figure of Dumbo in flight, holding his feather, with Timothy riding in his hat. So this piece makes for some nice symmetry in my collection.

This box includes a second Pop!. It’s Mickey Mouse’s best friend, Pluto! (Well, best friend in that a dog is Man’s Best Friend. Never mind that Mickey’s other best friend, Goofy, is also a dog…) I had seen complaints online that Funko was not taking the opportunity to include Pops that weren’t available anywhere else in these boxes, instead of variants on existing Pops. Of course, these complaints are undercut by the inclusion of Smee in the first box, and Pluto in this one, neither of whom have Pops available of them, but there’s the Internet for you.

The final item in this box is the Mystery Mini Tin, which is also the theme parks item. From the box, it’s clear that this represents Toy Story Midway Mania. The figure is Woody, and the box serves as a nice display accessory.

Here is the insert from this month’s box. As usual, one side features the contents of the box, with concept art, trivia, and more. The other features the map for Disney Treasure’s first year, teasing the theme for the next box, Tiny Town. It’s already been revealed that this box will feature a Tinkerbell Pop, and they’ve been hinting pretty strongly at a Small World item, so it will be interesting to see if that pans out.

Overall, we really enjoyed the contents of this box, especially the Dumbo Pop! We were disappointed to learn that subscribers that start with this box get an exclusive Pioneer pin; it makes sense to give people who subscribe for a year starting with the first box an exclusive pin, but I feel like beyond that, Funko should either not give later subscribers any exclusives, or they should make those exclusives available to the founder subscribers as well. Still, it’s not worth losing sleep over.

Once again, because this whole entry is about Funko stuff, I’m not featuring a Pop of the Week this week. If all goes according to plan, I will see you next week!
