What's in the Box?!?: April Funko Disney Treasures

Welcome back! Sorry I missed posting last week; once again, I was feeling overwhelmed by the world. I did finally get to see Black Panther with my wife, though, and we loved it! This week, I’ll be talking about the contents of the latest Disney Treasures box from Funko. Is this the last box  they’ll be producing in this subscription? I’m not even sure what’s going on with their subscription boxes any more, to be honest. Just taking it one box at a time any more.

Since Funko exhausted all the lands on their map for the first “season” of boxes, this one is simply “Adventure.” It’s got the travel sticker on the box, but, as you can see, none of the previous stickers from previous boxes are printed on this new one. So that’s a change from previous boxes, and indicates a new start here.

Also missing is the insert sheet describing the contents. Unlike their other boxes, though, we do still have a top flap hiding the contents, and displaying this month’s pin and patch.

The patch this month is a cute Pop! version of Peter Pan.

The pin is a Pop! version of Disney’s Robin Hood.

Both are adorable, and I particularly love the expression on Robin Hood’s face. The patch is similar to the patches from previous boxes. The previous ones were all supposed to fit around a central patch, exclusive to founding members who subscribed to the Disney Treasures boxes from the beginning. I still haven’t received my founders’ patch, so I don’t know what’s going on with that. And I don’t know if this is the start of a new cycle of patches that will also fit together, or if it’s just in this shape because that’s the shape of the previous patches.

Opening the box, we see the contents pretty much dominated by a big Pop! Rides box, with the art on top making it clear that it’s Orville the Albatross from The Rescuers.

The Rescuers—along with its sequel, Rescuers Down Under—is a particular favorite of mine. It’s not one I find myself wanting to buy merchandise from, but when presented with a gorgeous piece like this, I’ll take it.

Not only is this a beautifully crafted sculpt of Orville, but it comes with two mini-Pops of Bernard and Bianca riding in Orville’s sardine-can passenger compartment.

This came packaged with one wing removed. The wing snaps into place, but I haven’t done so yet, because we don’t have a good place to display this piece outside its box yet. You can see from these pictures—hopefully—that even with only one wing, it looks great.

The graphics on the Mystery Mini tin box make it pretty clear that it features someone from the Incredibles. This makes sense, with Incredibles 2 coming out this summer.

Opening it up, we find a cute figure of Elastigirl, which makes me happy. She was such a great character in the original movie, and there are plenty of male superhero figures out on the market already.

This box contains one last item. (Well, two, if you count the extra Adventure sticker that’s also included.) This Lilo luggage tag is so expressive! It’s a Pop! version of him, but those eyes and the lack of mouth still speak volumes. My wife claimed this for her own.

And that’s it for this month. I’m happy with the items we received, but I feel a little let down by this box overall. It’s good value for money, because Pop! Rides aren’t cheap, and these are characters that I love. But when we subscribed, one of the selling points was that there would be a Disney Parks item in each box, and there doesn’t seem to be one this month. Plus, as regular readers of this blog know, I’m consistently disappointed that Funko no longer includes the cards or inserts describing the contents of their boxes.

Still, the important parts of the box are the contents, and while I would have liked some sort of Parks item, I’m very happy with what I received.

That’s it for this week! See you next week!
